Did you know that we are losing 10 million hectares of forest every year? These are homes to more than half of the world's land-based species, and globally, over 1 billion people live in and around forests and rely on them for food, shelter and livelihoods. And after oceans, forests are the largest storehouses of carbon, making them essential allies in combating the climate crisis. Though we are losing them at an alarming rate, the world is increasingly recognizing the importance of our life-sustaining forests. For example, just three years ago we worked with others to establish the world's largest tropical rainforest national park covering 4.3 million hectares of the Colombian Amazon. This great achievement is part of our ongoing work for forests, but we still have more to do to protect them. And we need to do it together. Governments, communities, businesses, individuals and many others, including WWF, all have a part to play in turning things around. We need to help people better understand the many vital benefits forests provide to all of us, no matter where we live, from clean water to healthy soils. We need to halt deforestation, better protect and sustainably manage the forests that remain and restore forest landscapes. Can you help us make this happen? | | | | | | | | | WWF believes in people and nature thriving together | Visit panda.org today | | | | | WWF International Rue Mauverney 28 Gland Switzerland
