This just can't continue any longer, because losing species we share the planet with has a harmful ripple effect on all of us too.

OUR AMBITION | OUR WORK | GET INVOLVED Nature is in crisis. We're losing it at a rate never witnessed before, with a 68% decline in wildlife populations on average since 1970. This trend includes iconic animals like elephants and tigers, but many less-well-known species are also threatened with extinction including about 40% of plants. This just can't continue any longer, because losing species we share the planet with has a harmful ripple effect on all of us too. The natural systems, which provide us with everything from fresh water to a stable climate, rely on this rich variety of life on Earth – something called biodiversity. For example, lush forests like the Amazon act as key allies in our efforts to combat the climate crisis while also providing sustenance for people and homes for wildlife. If we lose them, we lose life-sustaining nature. Right now, we still have the opportunity to turn things around – and one of the keys lies in preserving this biodiversity. This week, a UN conference on biodiversity is taking place in China – bringing together countries to address how we can conserve and restore nature. With the right commitments, it could set up the foundations for a better, more sustainable future. ANONYMOUS DIDATICA - FABRICADO NO BARREIRO...

FABRICADO NO BARREIRO...

Se este Título fica bem a alguém, neste momento, no Município do Barreiro, só pode ser para o Dr. Bruno Vitorino, Vereador da Sustentabilidade Ambiental e Eficiência Energética. «Entendam por vossas cabeças o que quero aqui afirmar...».

Não podemos deixar de louvar o Município do Barreiro, na pessoa do seu Vereador da Sustentabilidade Ambiental e Eficiência Energética, (Dr. Bruno Vitorino, - esquecidos os partidarismos e respetivas politiquices corriqueiras atuais pós-vindas das recentes eleições autárquicas), pelas iniciativas que tem promovido e incentivado (acho muitíssimo bem e dou-lhe os meu parabéns...), junto dos "Munícipes" para uma mudança de comportamentos. 

Serão mais quatro anos a despertar consciências (penso eu...), e a promover os valores e recursos naturais para as gerações futuras, garantindo as de dimensão ambiental, económica e social. «O nosso quotidiano urbano depende desta sustentabilidade...», (refere Dr. Bruno Vitorino no editorial da FOLHA VIVA, Revista do Centro de Educação Ambiental da Mata da Machada e Sapal do Rio Coina), «depende também de um equilíbrio entre o desenvolvimento das comunidades locais e a preservação dos valores naturais que temos nas nossas paisagens.» Envolveu-se com o programa "LIFE Biodiscoveries" financiado ao abrigo do programa Europeu LIFE, sendo desta forma possível melhorar a qualidade dos ecossistemas, e preservar com mais identidade as espécies autóctones envolvendo nesse projeto mais de 9000 voluntários. 

O Município do Barreiro pode contar ainda com uma política de sustentabilidade energética. A melhoria em termos de poupança e investimento energético, através da instalação de painéis solares, substituição de lâmpadas por tecnologia LED… 

Através do Projeto ”EU SOU O MEU BAIRRO” também ele financiado pelo "Fundo Ambiental", teve por principal objetivo demonstrar que é possível reduzir custos e recursos com algumas mudanças de comportamentos e atitudes. Mas, muito há ainda para fazer no que concerne à mudança de hábitos e atitudes assim como comportamentos, não só ao nível das escolas como ao nível das populações em geral e não só no Concelho do Barreiro, como em todo o Portugal. 

O aumento da população mundial e o estilo de vida consumista da sociedade atual afeta negativamente a natureza. Os recursos do Planeta onde habitamos não são infinitos e extrair matérias, transformar em produtos, consumir e deitar fora, não é sustentável. Impõe-se cada vez mais a adoção do modelo de Economia Circular, onde se dá prioridade á redução dos resíduos, alargando o ciclo de vida dos produtos através da reutilização, recuperação e reciclagem de materiais e energia.
