Did you know Indigenous Peoples and local communities are guardians of at least 32% of land on our planet? There are hundreds of millions of Indigenous People living across the world today, possessing an incredible diversity of cultures, traditions, languages and knowledge systems and playing a crucial role in keeping our shared home healthy. 

In many of their lands, nature is thriving, helping protect our planet against the impacts of the climate crisis and preserving life on Earth. But their homes are at risk. In the future, over a quarter of these lands could face high development pressure from activities like unsustainable resource extraction, large-scale agriculture and urbanization. 

If we are going to build a future where people and nature thrive, strong support for and alliances with these traditional custodians of nature are vital, fully recognizing and formalizing their roles and rights. Together, we can support Indigenous Peoples and local communities around the world:
