A FAO define uma alimentação sustentável de forma sucinta; aquela em que os alimentos são nutritivos e acessíveis a todos, e os recursos naturais são geridos de forma a manter as funções dos ecossistemas para garantir a satisfação das necessidades humanas atuais e futuras. A sustentabilidade é tão somente, a proteção dos recursos naturais para que não nos falte comida e ar puro para respirar e lindos jardins onde possamos correr alegremente sem medos. Com o “desperdício alimentar”… se cada um de nós evitasse comprar mais do que precisa ou necessita; escolhesse alimentos com prazo de durabilidade maior; se cada um de nós conservasse corretamente os alimentos e aproveitasse as sobras, e se reduzisse as porções tal como a “Roda dos Alimentos” nos ensina e educa; se cada um de nós reduzisse o uso das embalagens de plástico; não tendo vergonha de comprar a fruta e os legumes a granel, se cada um de nós reciclar e reutilizar as embalagens, “O Planeta” não ficaria doente… porque se isto acontecer não haverá alimentação para todos os meninos e meninas do Mundo! Não haverá alimentos para todos os seres humanos.
