WWF International - Caring for our rivers 💙 2023


Ever wondered why rivers are so important? They provide us with fresh water, support biodiversity, connect people and safeguard livelihoods.

Rivers are essential for people and the planet as they provide fresh water, support biodiversity, connect communities and safeguard livelihoods. Take the Copalita River in Mexico for example: it's a vital water source for local people and wildlife. It also connects over 800 villages and provides habitat for a dazzling variety of species. But its health is under threat. Pollution from industrial and agricultural activities is putting this important river at risk.

To help conserve and restore the Copalita River, local communities are working together and taking action to protect it and all those who depend on it. Via management of water, forestry and soil, communities are leading the charge to preserve the Copalita River and its surrounding ecosystems – helping build a future where people and nature thrive:
